life is short…and completely uncertain.

we say life is short, but we don’t really believe it until we experience it…and then in our shock at how unexpectedly it can end, we begin to understand. somehow, deep down inside, it seems we will go on forever…like we are in control of our lives.
but we’re not.
or sometimes we believe that if we are good enough, God will proportionately lengthen our lives or the lives of those we love…and we forget that every breath, every moment of joy, every glimpse of love, is already far better than we deserve and is not in any way connected to our behavior.
so “goodness” does not insure life or blessing any more than our sinfulness keeps us from receiving it – by the grace of God!
and yet, somehow, we live our lives selfishly, assuming that we deserve what we desire, and forgetting Who is the Giver of all good gifts.
it doesn’t make sense. it’s not easy. it hurts…deeply.
but maybe that’s so we’re not too content here…maybe God wants us to long more passionately for the fullness of His perfect presence. maybe we will never fully understand until we experience the reality of life after death…when we know fully, even as we are fully known.
but until then…please give us faith to believe when we can’t see…and fill us with peace in the certainty of the hope found in JESUS!

“we know that the One who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us up with Jesus…Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for un an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:14, 16-18

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
Hebrews 11:1
