| we say life is short, but we don’t really believe it until we experience it…and then in our shock at how unexpectedly it can end, we begin to understand. somehow, deep down inside, it seems we will go on forever…like we are in control of our lives. but we’re not. or sometimes we believe that if we are good enough, God will proportionately lengthen our lives or the lives of those we love…and we forget that every breath, every moment of joy, every glimpse of love, is already far better than we deserve and is not in any way connected to our behavior. so “goodness” does not insure life or blessing any more than our sinfulness keeps us from receiving it – by the grace of God! and yet, somehow, we live our lives selfishly, assuming that we deserve what we desire, and forgetting Who is the Giver of all good gifts. it doesn’t make sense. it’s not easy. it hurts…deeply. but maybe that’s so we’re not too content here…maybe God wants us to long more passionately for the fullness of His perfect presence. maybe we will never fully understand until we experience the reality of life after death…when we know fully, even as we are fully known. but until then…please give us faith to believe when we can’t see…and fill us with peace in the certainty of the hope found in JESUS!
“we know that the One who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us up with Jesus…Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for un an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:14, 16-18
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

| wow God, this is not easy! but i realize that no matter what anyone does to me....no matter how many times they hurt me or let me down....i have to keep loving, without expecting anything in return. i don't even know how to do that! i just can't handle this....it hurts too much.... | | |
| if the Word is abiding in me, i am strong enough to overcome the enemy....
the Word should inform my prayers, my thoughts, everything i say and do....but that only happens through meditating every day
satan's strategies to attack our faith: accusation (bringing up the sins we've already done) and temptation (sins he wants us to do)
revelation 12:10-11 his accusations fall to the ground if you are covered by the blood of the Lamb! triumph over the devil - is not life or prosperity - it's keeping your testimony to death (the word of their testimony...they were not afraid to die for Christ)
1 john 2:1--we have an Advocate - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One
1 john 2:24--FAITH overcomes the world and the evil one
when you are in Christ NO ACCUSATION can stand against you!
temptation=test satan's lies in tempation: 1-God is bad/weak.....2-sin is better
TRUTH defeats the lies....Your Word is Truth, and it sets us free
we fight the fight of faith our whole lives....Christianity is life, not just events...fighting every single day.
*listen to john piper's sermon "The Word of God Abides in You, and You Have Overcome the Evil One"...you can download it free on www.desiringgod.org
so God, i need your help....i am trying to keep fighting, but i'm sick of it! i don't know what to do....please let me be consumed by the truth of Your Word every day....i need Your grace!
| God, let me view all things through Your eyes...
"Our hearts have dozens of strategies to avoid the fear of the Lord. One strategy is that we downgrade obedience--the concrete expression of the fear of the Lor--into concern about appearances. We concentrate on actions and overlook attitudes. By doing this, our sinful nature can give us a sense that we are okay. We have not killed today. We have not been adulterous. We have not stolen anything from the store. Therefore, we had a good day. Better yet, we are good. Of course, we occasionally do bad things. We might yell too loudly, or we might pick up some pornography at the airport. In these cases we should ask God's forgiveness. But, on the whole, we tend to be fairly good. And if we think we are usually good, then God is usually irrelevant. Such thinking is not advertised as good theology, but isn't it the practical theology of many Christians? I know that it can be my own. I am a good guy--a nice guy--who occasionally does bad things. Such thinking ignores the depths of sin in my own heart, and, in essence, it elevates me so that I am just a mildly flawed imitation of God rather than someone completely dependent on him. Fear of the Lord is then impossible."
When People Are Big and God Is Small Edward Welch (100)
Lord, please forgive me for thinking that I am good....that I can do good things on my own! i am desperately in need of You! thank you for Your kindness....for the mercy You pour out on me every day!
| "The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:8-10
the Word is powerful! it is alive and true....wow, Lord, thank You for speaking!
"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the BLOOD of JESUS, by a new and living way opened up for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of FAITH, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the HOPE we profess, for he who promised is FAITHFUL. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward LOVE and GOOD DEEDS. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us ENCOURAGE one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." Hebrews 10:19-26
let the Word consume your thoughts....be filled with the Spirit....reflect the holiness of our mighty Savior!
